Panopto Instructor Training

Intro to Panopto

What is Panopto?

Panopto is Northwestern's video capture and management tool for training, teaching, and presenting. With Panopto, you can record, webcast, manage, and search all of your video content. In this self-paced training, you will learn how to use Panopto in your Canvas courses to create, manage, edit, and share videos with students.

How Can I Use Panopto in My Courses?

  • Record a welcome message.
  • Record class lectures (in face-to-face classes) for students to review later.
  • Record lectures for online classes or as part of a face-to-face or hybrid course.
  • Record a demonstration of a process or procedure.
  • Record presentations by guest speakers.
  • Assess students asynchronously using the in-video quizzing tool.
  • Embed a recording into the Rich Content Editor of a Canvas discussion or assignment as a springboard for reflection and discussion.
  • Create video assignments for students' own Panopto recordings, providing a platform for virtual presentations as an assessment tool.
