The Cook County Courthouse, located on 2600 S California Ave, is a neoclassical building that currently serves as Chicago's main criminal courts and corrections facility. Having first opened in 1929, the courthouse sits on an expansive 96-acre complex next to the Cook County Jail. With a current occupancy of over 10,000 inmates, this estate is the largest single-site prison in the United States - a record which reflects Chicago's social issues during the 1920s, as well as some existing today.
