Only a few blocks from one of North America's most beautiful and renowned opera houses, Century Tower is far from being Chicago's most famous building. Hidden mere feet behind the tracks of the L's downtown loop, the Art Deco skyscraper is often ignored by the thousands of commuters who pass by it every day. Those who take a moment to notice it, however, discover the building's profound message for everyday Chicagoans. Through the work of prominent artists Gwen and Eugene Lux and Edgar Miller, Century Tower's exterior decorations and classical references celebrate the hardworking Midwestern spirit and the beauty of the everyday man. Ultimately, the building is a love-letter to Chicago's status as the "City of the Big Shoulders."
