Activate and Download Panopto
Activate Panopto in Your Canvas Course
Before you can start using Panopto, you must enable it within your Canvas course. Follow these steps:
- Log in to Canvas https://canvas.northwestern.edu/ using your Northwestern login credentials.
- Open the course. Click Settings.
- Click on the Navigation tab.
- Scroll down the page until you see Panopto within the hidden section.
- Drag Panopto up to the visible section, then drop it where you'd like it to appear in the navigation menu.
- Click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page. (Note: Kellogg and Feinberg users see a specific instance of Panopto for their schools.)
- You should now see the Panopto link in your left-hand navigation bar.
- Click the Panopto link to create a Panopto folder for your course. You may need to log in with your NetID and password the first time you click this link.
- Panopto has now created a folder dedicated to your course.Students enrolled in the course will need to click on the Panopto link in the site at least once in order to have access to the files stored here. Once they have access, they will be able to view the videos anywhere they are linked or embedded.

Download the Panopto Software to your Desktop
Go to https://northwestern.hosted.panopto.com/

Click on the purple Sign In button.
When redirected to the Northwestern Online Passport page, log in with your NetID and password.
Click Download Panopto, found in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
In the download options, chose either Windows or Mac .

Once installed, whenever you want to record a new video, start using Panopto from Canvas by clicking on the Create button at the top of your Panopto page. Select Record a New Session. The Panopto recorder will open on your desktop and sync to your cloud account.
