COMMISSION

The Michigan Square Building was one of Holabird & Root’s many commissions on N. Michigan. It was part of the large-scale development of the N. Michigan Avenue, which would soon be called the "Miracle Mile."

The area the Michigan Square Building stood was purchased by Murray Wolbach between 1919 and 1928. Holabird & Root were commissioned by Wolbach to build a structure to house his real estate.

The building was paid for by a $3,200,00.00 loan from the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company.
