NUToDo and Course Card Details
The NUToDo (i.e. New To-Do) and Course Card Details features provide an enhanced to-do list for Canvas. When enabled, NUToDo and Course Card Details display on the Canvas Dashboard when using either the Card View or Recent Activity View, and the syllabus page of individual course sites.
Features of NUToDo include:
- A colorful chart with various rings color coded by course. As you complete your assignments throughout the week, the rings will show your progress.
- A list of all active assignments that are counted in the rings. Each task item has the name, course, type, due date, point value, and link for the assignment.
- The option to create custom task items.
- The option to filter assignments by course.
- The option to manually mark assignments as complete.
Course Card Details adds links and due dates for upcoming assignments to course cards on the Canvas Dashboard.
NUToDo and Course Card Details are optional extensions that are unaffiliated with Instructure's Canvas LMS. They are not endorsed or supported officially by any party other than Northwestern University. If you need assistance, please contact canvas@northwestern.edu. NUToDo and Course Card details do not collect or share user data and only communicate with the official, secure Canvas API supported by Instructure.

- The Upcoming column displays each upcoming graded assignment, quiz, or discussion in active courses. To sort by class, click on the corresponding ring. To remove the filter, click the course ring again.
- Late assignments will display a red LATE pill on the item before the due date.
- The Completed column displays all assignments which have either been submitted or manually marked as completed or dismissed.
- To mark a task as Completed, click on the icon on the left-hand side of the task; to dismiss a task, click on the x on right-hand side of the task.
- Dismissed or completed tasks can be returned to the Upcoming column by clicking on the x with an arrow on the right-hand side of the task listed in the Completed column.
- Tasks which have been submitted will automatically move to the Completed column and display a blue COMPLETED pill.

Creating Custom Tasks
- To create a custom task, click on the purple + icon in the top right-hand corner of the NUToDo feature. This task will only apply to the account for which it is made, not for a course or other users, and is based in the Canvas Calendar.
- Custom task fields include task name, date/time, and notes. This could be any task related to coursework which is not explicitly listed as a Canvas task, i.e. studying for an exam.
- Note: When using NUToDo in an individual course site, not on the Dashboard, the Canvas Keyboard Shortcuts Links to an external site. are triggered by default with certain keystrokes. If you encounter this, you can override the shortcut keys by pressing SHIFT + they letter you are trying to type.
Using Course Card Details
