Gradebook Filtering and Organization
Canvas offers a number of search and filter functions to find specific information in your course gradebook. As of Spring 2022, there is a new enhanced filter option that is enabled in courses to allow filters to be saved for repeated use.
Gradebook FAQs
- Adding columns to the gradebook: In order for a column to appear in the gradebook (including items with no submission such as participation), a corresponding graded item needs to be created in assignments, discussions, or quizzes. - Comments and messages: For work that is not submitted online and available in SpeedGrader, instructors can leave comments

- Letter grades and percentages: When creating an assignment, grading options include points, letter grades, percentages, and complete/incomplete. We recommend using points. Selecting letter grades requires additional set-up of grading schemes each time this option is selected as the grading option.
Downloading & Uploading Grades
Instructors wishing to work offline can download the gradebook as a spreadsheet. If they choose to change grades or add columns, they can also re-upload their changes to Canvas.

"Treat ungraded as zero" is no longer a feature in the updated gradebook
