Exploring the options for Communication and Discussion

Canvas has a variety of ways for you to communicate with your students.

  • Announcements: use to communicate with everyone in the course. Perfect for welcome messages, to tell students where to start in the course site, or to provide an updated deadline.
  • Conversations (the Inbox): Like emails, Conversations can be used to reach individual students or a group of students.
  • Discussions: Great for interactive discussions between two or more people within your course. Recommendation: create a discussion board called "Introductions" and ask students to upload a few sentences about themselves and a picture.
