GradeSync: Sending Final Grades from Canvas to CAESAR
GradeSync Overview
GradeSync is a tool in Canvas that allows instructors to review, modify, and send final grade calculations from their Canvas courses to CAESAR. In order to use GradeSync, instructors should have a full record of each student's scores in the Canvas grade book.
- Visit the Office of the Registrar's website for grading deadlines and policies. The deadline for submitting grades to CAESAR is 3 p.m. on the day of the deadline.
- Report discrepancies between the grade roster and the list of students attending the class promptly to nu-grades@northwestern.edu.
- Contact 847-467-0760 with questions.
GradeSync Exceptions
- GradeSync will not work in courses with manually enrolled students. Course enrollment must come from CAESAR.
- In addition, GradeSync cannot be used to change grades that have already been officially posted in CAESAR by the Office of the Registrar.
- GradeSync is not currently available to the School of Law.

- Verify your enrollment status for the course in CAESAR as a Primary or Secondary Instructor. Only Primary or Secondary Instructor have the "Grader" role in CAESAR necessary to use GradeSync; grading proxies (such as a TA) are not able to use GradeSync.
- Create and enable a course grading scheme Links to an external site..
- Make sure that you have completed all course grading and the grade that you see in the Total column matches the grade the student should receive. Note that individual grades may be overridden within GradeSync.
Note: If you are using a gradebook export spreadsheet Links to an external site. to make changes to your gradebook, do not delete column headers otherwise the file will not re-upload properly.
