Grading, Assignments & Quizzes
Welcome to Canvas Grading, Assignments, and Quizzes Training
This asynchronous, online course is designed for faculty, teaching assistants, and staff who have never used the Canvas learning management system, are building on basic Canvas skills or are looking for a refresher on specific topics. In this course, you will learn how to create assignments, discussions, quizzes, and manage the gradebook. The course is designed so that you can select a specific topic or move through whole training sequentially.
The time commitment for this course is approximately 4 hours. Throughout the course there are several hands-on activities directing you to build in Canvas. Taking the time to try out the features explained in this training will help you get the most out of the time you are putting in.
Before moving forward in this training, we recommend that you verify your access to a prep site. A prep site is an unpublished course in which you can build and test without students viewing your work. See instructions below on how to request a prep site since they are not automatically created for instructors. Requesting and a receiving a prep site is usually quick and easy, so take a few minutes now to request one before moving forward in the training.
Requesting a Prep Site
Ask the Canvas Chatbot to create a course for you. In the left global Canvas navigation, click on the Help icon. In the window that opens, click on "Chat with the Canvas Support Chatbot." Ask the chatbot for a prep site by saying "Please create a prep site." The Chatbot will confirm if you have a current Teacher, TA, or Support role in Canvas and ask if you want to add an additional name modifier to the prep course. After these confirmations, the Chatbot will create your prep site for you.
