Additional security options

In addition to only allowing Northwestern participants and approved guests, there are additional security options for meetings:

In-meeting security

In the bottom toolbar containing meeting controls, meeting hosts will see an option called Security. This security icon simplifies how hosts can quickly find and enable many of Zoom’s in-meeting security features Links to an external site.. By clicking the Security icon, hosts and co-hosts have an all-in-one place to quickly:

  • Lock the meeting
  • Enable the Waiting Room (even if it’s not already enabled)
  • Remove participants
  • Restrict participants’ ability to:
    • Share their screens
    • Chat in a meeting
    • Rename themselves
    • Annotate on the host’s shared content

Require a Meeting Password

You can set a strong password for all meetings. When scheduling a meeting, under Meeting Options, select Require meeting password, then specify a strong password (make your password at least eight characters long and use at least three of the following types of characters: lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, symbols). Participants will need this password to join your meeting.

Enable Generate and require password for participants joining by phone to extend the meeting security to phone connections as well.

Enable the Waiting Room Feature

The Waiting Room Links to an external site. allows you to control when each participant joins the meeting.  Admit attendees one by one, or hold all attendees in the virtual waiting room and admit them en masse. While using this feature this takes more effort, it ensures that only those you specifically admit can join the meeting.
